Updates from WWDC 2022

During WWDC 2022, Apple announced a number of exciting developments. Here are some of the highlights.

New M2 Chip

Taking the breakthrough performance and capabilities of M1 even further, M2 delivers new levels of power-efficient performance and capabilities to the completely redesigned MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro

M2 brings Apple’s latest custom technologies to the Mac, enabling new capabilities, better security, and more:

  • The Neural Engine can process up to 15.8 trillion operations per second — over 40 per cent more than M1.
  • The media engine includes a higher-bandwidth video decoder, supporting 8K H.264 and HEVC video.
  • Apple’s powerful ProRes video engine enables playback of multiple streams of both 4K and 8K video.
  • Apple’s latest Secure Enclave provides best-in-class security.
  • A new image signal processor (ISP) delivers better image noise reduction.

    MacBook Air. MacBook Pro.
    All powerful. All business.

The next-generation M2 chip makes the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the redesigned MacBook Air more capable than ever for business. Yet still lightweight with all-day battery life.* So all your teams, from sales to finance, can do more and collaborate on just about anything — anywhere.

    macOS Ventura

macOS Ventura takes the world’s most advanced desktop operating system to a whole new level. Stage Manager helps users stay focused on a task while seamlessly switching between apps and Windows. With Continuity Camera, you can use iPhone as a Mac webcam. Mail, Messages, and Photos deliver great new features. And in Safari you can collaborate in Tab Groups with colleges and use passkeys to get a glimpse into a future without passwords.

    • Public beta in July through the Apple Beta Software Program (beta.apple.com)
    • Free software update in fall 2022

Here are our top three developments to macOS...

    1.

    Mail
Use helpful features for managing email to schedule emails, unsend an email a few moments after sending it, compose beautiful emails with rich links that show previews of the content you’ve shared, and more. And with a smarter, faster search experience, you’ll see relevant results even if you make a typo and you can get results for synonyms, too.

    2.

    Stage Manager
Automatically organise your open apps and windows with Stage Manager, so you can stay focused on your work and easily move between tasks. The app you’re working in displays prominently in the centre of your screen, and other open apps appear on the left side for easy switching.

    3.

    Safari and passkeys
Share sites as you collaborate in a shared Tab Group. And use passkeys, a next-generation credential that can’t be phished or leaked - and aims to replace passwords.

    iOS 16

iOS 16 delivers the biggest update ever to the Lock Screen, making it more personal and helpful than ever. With updates to Messages and Mail, you can stay in touch with ease. Enhanced intelligence updates to Live Text and Visual Look-up make every day easier for users.

    • iPhone 8 and later
    • Public beta in July through the Apple Beta Software Program (beta.apple.com)
